Liaquat Baloch, a key leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, has hailed the statement of Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain offering accountability of the rulers.
Talking to this news agency here on Sunday, the MMA leader said the amendment in the current accountability law was essential. He demanded the supervision of the National Accountability Bureau by an army general.
"The NAB must be headed by a civilian judge, to ensure a transparent and impartial accountability," Baloch said and added "the MMA welcomes the PM's suggestion that the accountability of those in power should be conducted.
"No doubt the accountability is a national demand and is crucial to the eradication of corruption from society," Liaquat Baloch said. He observed that the present NAB is a failure and worthless body, that needs a proper replacement.
He said: "The NAB is being used as a tool for political vengeance and that the premier's intent to hand it over to the judiciary vindicates the opposition's assertion that the NAB was a dud.
