Comsats offered to join INSME's network

The international organisations have assured full co-operation to achieve Comsats goal of sensitising developing countries for science and technology development.
"They have poised full co-operation to further the cause of development through science and technology in Comsats member countries," said Executive Director, Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (Comsats), Dr Hameed Ahmed Khan.
The Executive Director, who visited Japan, Switzerland and Germany recently, said during his stay he met with several heads and officials of international and regional organisations and discussed issues of mutual interest.
Talking to APP here on Sunday, Khan said he attended a number of international moot and roundtables with organisations such as Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA), United Nations University (UNU) and United Nations Commission on S&T for Development (CSTD) resulted in fostering synergies and furthering the understanding and close relationship.
He said International Network of Small Medium Enterprises (INSME), Italy has offered Comsats to join its network, taking into account Comsats services in the field of SME development.
The Executive Director Comsats, who attended the seventh session of United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) at Geneva said it provided an opportunity to exchange views with delegates from various walks of life.
He also said a number of S&T organisations showed keen interest in becoming part of Comsats International Network of Centres of Excellence.
During his stay in Tokyo, he paid visit to two leading universities of Japan - Nihon and Waseda, and also met with President and Deputy Chief of JICA.
The meeting with JICA officials helped identify various areas of mutual collaboration. The meeting resolved to allow young participants from Comsats member countries to benefit from the JICA's Youth Invitation Programme, and to facilitate JICA to use Comsats platform for the Expert Dispatch Programme in the Comsats member countries.
In Germany, Dr Khan attended the International Conference on Renewable Energies, which in fact is one of the theme areas of Comsats' 1st five-year plan for regional development.
Even in the early part of this year, Comsats held a two day conference on Renewable Energy Technologies and Sustainable Development, which brought useful deliberations and discussions addressing the present needs in the domain of energy.
