Donkey pumps major source of water contamination

Donkey pumps installed by the consumers at water supply system of Wasa are a major source of water contamination.
City District Government Lahore sources told APP on Sunday that the sucking pressure exerted by donkey pump causes leakage in domestic pipe lines which resulted in water contamination in the supply system and effect its users.
One donkey pump, they said, causes shortage of water for ten adjacent houses and the consumers complaint for low pressure of water.
District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood has already called upon the Wasa consumers to remove such donkey pumps.
They said that the City District Government is utilising all possible resources for ensuring supply of clean drinking water to the people.
Work for installation of 20 new tube-wells is being carried out speedily and Wasa had planned to install 50 new tube-wells during the next fiscal year. Many out of use tube-wells had been made operational.
Directive had been issued for simplifying procedure for getting new water connections, besides making available online the application forms required for this purpose.
Wasa had launched an extensive campaign against illegal water connections, which were causing enormous loss to the organisation, they added.
