08 Jul, 2004

All Punjab Rickshaw/Taxi Unions Federation Punjab staged a demonstration outside Transport House here on Wednesday in protest against the removal of LPG kits from rickshaws and imposition of heavy fines upon rickshaw drivers.
A good number of rickshaw and taxi drivers joined in the protest and shouted slogans against the wrong policies of environment department, transport department and traffic police. Later the demonstrators moved on towards the Lahore Press Club.
While talking to newsmen, a member of the union Javed Sabir said that similar protests would also be held at Gujranwala, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad.
If the government does not meet their demands, he would stage hunger strike outside the Punjab Assembly on July 20, while on July 22 the rickshaw drivers would hold a wheel-jam strike throughout Punjab.
