Danyal slams local government system opponents

Chairman National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), Danyal Aziz has said those opposing the Local Government system are the reminiscent of Britain colonial rule.
Overall the system is working effectively with encouraging results, the NRB chairman told PTV.
He said, two-third majority of the members of parliament have given constitutional protection to LG system under schedule of the constitutional amendment package for a period of six years. There remains no room to criticise the system after this, Danyal said.
It is the first time in country history that powers have been transferred to grassroots level, he said.
He said the turnout during local bodies' election remained exemplary while preparations for the next elections are being made right now.
Some difficulties and hurdles were a natural phenomena in the functioning of this system following the elections of national and provincial assemblies but the situation has now been overcome, he said.
There is no opposition to this system whatsoever at public level he said and added that only the privileged class, which is taught to live in VIP conditions, is opposing it.
