Detention of four PPP activists by Punjab Home Department was declared unlawful by Lahore High Court, Multan Bench.
Justice Khalid Alvi of LHC, Multan, has ordered the release of all four detainees Ishrat Abbas Naqvi, Muhammad Asad, Hashim Khan Babur and Sajid Ali.
Multan police had arrested them on the charge of attempting to attack the vehicle of Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz on June 20 when they were going to a local hotel to attend a Kissan credit card launching ceremony.
Later they were granted bail after arrest from the Court but Punjab Government issued their one-month detention orders under MPO-16.
Another nine accused, including Mukhtar Ahmed Awan, Habibullah Shakir, M Salim Raja, Rizwan Alam and Tariq Raza Khan, who are on interim pre-arrest bail, would appear before the Additional District and Sessions Judge Multan Muhammad Siddique on Saturday.
DRUGGISTS RALLY: Pharmaceutical Distributors Association and Pakistan Chemists & Druggists Association jointly organised a rally from Altaf Town to Chowk Kutchery in which a large number of traders in 50 vehicles took part.
They staged a demonstration in front of Multan Press Club and at Chowk Kutchery. They were chanting slogans against the police and administration for failure to solve 34 dacoities.
They expressed concern on the growing incidents of lawlessness, dacoities, thefts and developing state of uncertainty. Later they dispersed peacefully.
