Khanewal Police has arrested a prayer leader Qari Abdul Rashid for threatening a Shia activist Syed Abbas Kausar to kill.
"We received a complaint from Abbas Kausar that he was receiving phone-calls from a hit man of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi for threatening him to kill as a revenge of MNA Maulana Azam Tariq's murder.
We observed all the calls received by Abbas Kausar and arrested the real culprit," said DPO Khanewal, Dr Jamil Ahmed.
He said that city police had traced the call with the help of Pakistan Telecom staff and arrested a prayer leader Qari Abdul Rashid son of Omar din resident of Islampura (Mian Chunnu).
He had confessed the crime, however he denied his affiliation with Lashkar-i-Jhangvi or any other organisation.
Khanewal Police produced him before the Judicial Magistrate for granting his physical remand but the court bailed him out on Friday because police had no proof of his involvement in terrorist activities. He was booked under section 506 PPC.
