It is a matter of satisfaction that Population Welfare Department this year also celebrates World Population Day on 11th July 2004 likewise last years since 1994. Every year UNFPA announces a topic related to socio economic issues.
Whole activities at the federal, provincial and grass root levels by public sector and private partners emphasis on same topic for accomplishing of goals set under Reproductive Health Package of International Conference on Population and Development "ICPD" - 1994.
This year topic "ICPD at 10" evokes to evaluate our policies and strategies formulated for achieving of ICPD-l994 mandate. On evaluation of last decade activities fallen in two 5 year plans 1993-98 and 1998-2003 show that by the grace of God, department has achieved all the targets set in these plans. A recent report has declared that in the mid of 2004 population growth rate declined at 1.9%, which is a tremendous success of Population Welfare Programme as well as other stakeholders in public and Private sectors.
In other areas like maternal mortality, infant mortality and total fertility rate etc we have also contributed, which was our secondary objective supporting to health department.
This department is fully committed and engaged to render Family Planning and Reproductive Health Service at the doorsteps of needy communities. At present 438 Family Welfare Centers, 38 Reproductive Health Services Centers, 36 Mobile Service Units and 345 Male Mobilizers are functioning throughout the province. Besides non-program partners like, NGOs, Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) Hakeems and Homoeopaths are also engaged for provision of services.
Today at this important moment I would like to reinforce that each walk of life should come forward and join hands with the public sector and help to enhance and ensure immunities to the masses, particularly in rural and slum vicinities.
