ADB gives $12.5 million in flood aid to Sri Lanka

11 Jul, 2004

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Saturday that it would extend 12.5 million dollars in emergency assistance to Sri Lanka to repair damage from flooding last year.
The aid will be used to repair roads and bridges in the south that suffered Sri Lanka's worst flooding in more than 50 years during torrential rain in May 2003, the ADB said in a statement from its Manila headquarters.
The assistance will be financed through savings from six other ongoing ADB-assisted projects in Sri Lanka, the bank added.
