14 Jul, 2004

Women participation in different fields including politics would provide them an opportunity to play pivotal role in economic development, apart from enabling them to become independent economically and socially.
Punjab Minister for Women Development Ashfa Riaz stated this while addressing the meeting of Provincial Steering Committee for Women Development held here on Tuesday.
She maintained that women could play an important role in the reformation of society through awareness about their fundamental rights. Appreciating the services of former provincial minister Shaheen Atiq-ur-Rehman, she said that she worked a lot for the prosperity and development of women.
Furthermore, she said that Family Protection Centres were established, which now had been expanded all over the province.
She added that establishment of Family Protection Centres including Women Resource Centres were playing important role in building confidence among women, as these centres encourage women to raise their voices against the discrimination. She was of the view that NGO's in collaboration with government should form a network to make joint efforts for the uplift of women. Women in Pakistan have all the potentials to achieve heights and contribute their role towards strengthening the country's economy, she added.
