Minfal clarifies PAC allegation report

The Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) on Tuesday clarifying a report, appearing in a section of the press alleging mismanagement in the import of fertiliser, termed the report incorrect and contrary to the facts.
The Minfal spokesman said the audit reports in question related to the period of the years of 2000 and 2001, which recorded 12 observations on the matter.
However, when the Minfal presented the factual position before the committee so that the PAC cleared its seven paragraphs and formed a sub-committee under the supervision of MNA Qurban Ali Shah to examine three positions.
Besides, the PAC asked for further verification and probing the facts concerning the two remaining points. It also asked for fixing the responsibility and recovery of the monetary loss from the official concerned.
Detailed discussions were held about the consignment imported in 1990, which was found lumpy. The Minfal explained that it was due to unfavourable weather conditions.
The other consignment was imports in 1999 and inspection reports have cleared its specification position. Two of the designated laboratories cleared the consignment, however the matter was referred to two more laboratories, which found some verification.
Under the circumstances the Director General Fertiliser took decision and cleared the consignment because he had two authentic reports before him.
The PAC decided that the matter might further be examined and responsibility be fixed and loss be recovered.
The spokesman further pointed out that SRO- 393 with regard to pesticides was still a draft and recommendations were being received. A final shape to that SRO for implementation would be given after having detailed deliberation, he added.
