Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday issued notice to Deputy Prosecutor General NAB on application of Ms Kauser Perveen seeking bail of her spouse Ziaul Islam ex joint secretary of interior ministry, in NAB reference.
Ziaul Islam, who was also ex-Commissioner of Karachi, was arrested by NAB on December 01, 2003 and NAB reference 3{003 is pending in Accountability Court Karachi.
As per NAB reference, it is alleged that Ziaul Islam and his wife had purchased properties and maintained accounts worth million of rupees beyond their legal source of income. Earlier, in April SHC dismissed the bail plea of Ziaul Islam.
It was submitted by petitioner that only 18 out of 52 prosecution witnesses were examined besides there was a long list of defence witnesses as well for testimony.
She said that it would be unfair if her spouse is forced to languish in jail when serious doubts have also appeared in case.
The court was prayed to release the accused on bail. SHC's bench, comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Gulzar Ahmed, after preliminary hearing the petition issued notice to DPG NAB for date to be fixed by office.
Meanwhile, the same court issued notice to DPG NAB on bail application of Syed Shakeel Hussain, ex-Post Master of Kathery post office, who is facing NAB reference in respect of misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds.
