The local production of tyres and tubes has increased during last five years due to increased demand and supply of automobiles in the country. The manufacturers in the Punjab, Sindh and NWFP have produced total of 5,035,287 tyres during 1999-00 to 2003-04.
The production of tyres was 856,291 in 1999-00; 885,604 in 2000-01; 909,476 in 2001-02; 1,082,592 in 2002-03 and 1,301,324 in 2003-04.
Only four manufacturers are producing tyres in Pakistan. The production of tubes has increased during last five years. The country has produced 2,767,509 tubes from 1999-00 to 2003-04.
The fours companies working in Punjab, Sindh and NWFP have manufactured 489,178 tubes in 1999-00, 518,688 in 2000-01, 556,770 in 2001-02, 616,013 in 2002-03 and 586,860 in 2003-04. The major increase in the production of tyres and tubes has been witnessed in Sindh and NWFP, the sources added.
