A large number of doctors along with their family members and patients on Wednesday held a strong protest demonstration in front of Karachi Press Club (KPC) against arrest of two physicians Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed, who were taken into custody a few weeks back.
Carrying banners and placards inscribed with demands for release of detained doctors, they demanded government to stop derogatory behaviour of law enforcement agencies against Dr Akmal Waheed, Dr Arshad Waheed and their driver and further asked for allowing their family members and lawyers to meet them.
The protest demonstration was held by Joint Doctors Action Committee (JDAC) comprising doctors' associations including Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) and Pakistan Medical Association (PMA).
Mother, father, wives and minor kids of both doctors also participated in the protest along with patients, who were being treated by both the doctors.
A handbill was also distributed among participants of the demo by JDAC, demanding immediate release of detained doctors.
Participants in hundreds were holding placards and chanting slogans, saying "Do not treat doctors as criminals", "Stop sabotaging the image of doctors through media", "Is service to humanity is a crime", "We want immediate release of Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed", "Don't kill the doctors-patient relationship" and "Repeal baseless cases".
