Salaried class need not file income tax return

Salaried class is not necessarily required to file income tax return with the department and the information passed on by the employers will be sufficient.
This was stated by Member, Income Tax, Central Board of Revenue (CBR), Sultan Nabi, in a PTV programme on Saturday.
He said that CBR is committed to simplify tax collection system and a lot of steps have been taken with the consensus of stakeholder.
The department has set up a 'helpline' with very positive feedback, he said, adding that hundreds of taxpayers get information through it daily.
He said that people can contact the department during office hours by telephone on Universal Access Numbers 111-227-227 and 111-227-228.
He said the email helpline address of the department is helpline@cbr.gov.pk while of the website is www.cbr.gov.pk.
Besides, he said, the department has prepared brochures for information of tax payers which are being distributed through trade associations and chambers.
These brochures contain information about business, property, salary and charity income tax, he said.
He said that collection of withholding tax on electricity bill bears nothing to the inconvenience of taxpayers. It is for their relief, he added.
He said that an affordable amount is collected through this method every month which, at the end of the year, is adjustable in both ways.
He said income tax commissioner is bound to decide refund claim within 45 days.
