'Programme being executed to improve irrigation network'

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi chairing a meeting on irrigation system here on Saturday has said that setting up of water reservoirs is of paramount importance for the promotion of agricultural sector and overall economic development, for which there should be consensus among all provinces.
Punjab Chief Minister pointed out that shortage of water can seriously affect agricultural sector as well as national economy, and it is only through better water management, can the agricultural and economic reforms programs be effectively implemented.
Punjab Chief Minister dilated that overcoming water shortage is imperative for increasing productivity of agricultural sector. He said Punjab has the largest share in production of wheat, cotton, rice and other crops and it is the corner stone of government planning to enhance water resources to further increase production of these crops.
He said a comprehensive programme is being executed to improve irrigation network in the province. Provincial Agricultural Minister Amir Sultan Cheema, senior officials were present on the occasion.
