19 Jul, 2004

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi stressed upon the NWFP to pick up wheat from Punjab as was done by Sindh recently.
He was talking to journalists and party workers at his residence here on Sunday.
Showing resolve to uplift the lot of common man, the Chief Minister stated that unless benefits of development are transferred at the grassroots level, no progress could be termed appropriate.
The Chief Minister said that reorganisation of the party has been started actively and all branches of the PML including youth wing, labour wing and women wing are being further activated.
He stated that all those persons involved in excess on students during dismantling of passer-by bridges at the Punjab University New Campus would be taken to task. Underpasses for students at the New Campus would be built shortly, he added.
He stated that measures were being taken to reduce price of wheat in the province. On a question of calling a meeting on water issue under the NFC Award, he added that a meeting in this regard will take place on Tuesday.
Responding to a question about the Kalabagh Dam, he said construction of water reservoirs is the need of the hour. However, any major dam would be constructed with national consensus, he added.
