Kabul frees 65 Pakistani prisoners

20 Jul, 2004

The Afghan government freed 65 suspected Pakistani militants on Monday, the latest group to be released after being caught fighting for the Taleban during the US-led war in late 2001.
According to the Pakistani government, around 500 more Pakistani nationals are in Afghan prisons.
Pakistani diplomats have welcomed the releases as a positive move towards improving relations between the two countries. One Pakistani diplomat in Kabul said he hoped the rest of the prisoners in Afghanistan would be released soon.
