Gas supply to a very small part of Sukkur city had to be suspended for a couple of hours on Monday evening, for carrying out immediate repair of leakage discovered in the gas pipeline passing through Bunder Road, said a spokesman for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), while clarifying the facts to newsmen on Tuesday.
He said that SSGC was undertaking the gas supply work for providing gas to the Sukkur Thermal Power Station from the main gas pipeline, but during the process on Monday the engineers discovered dangerous leakage in the gas supply line passing from Makrani mosque
Bunder Road area, which needed an urgent repair.
Consequently, as a precaution gas supply was suspended from this pipeline to Shahi Bazar, Frere Road, Bunder Road, and couple of other adjoining areas from 6.00 to 8.00 pm during which repair work was completed. After the completion of repair work gas supply to these areas was fully restored.
He dispelled the impression that the supply was suspended to half of Sukkur city, and added that only the above-mentioned areas were affected or partly affected due to low gas pressure.
He said gas supply to Sukkur city was not affected at all, other than the above areas for a small period, which had to be done for safety and security purpose in order to ensure smooth gas supply to Sukkur Thermal Power Station.
