Feudal lords and generals

22 Jul, 2004

I salute the Chief of MQM Altaf Hussain, who made a profound statement during his telephone address to his party's Punjab organisation. He said that:
The feudal lords and army generals were responsible for the country's backwardness.
Pakistan can make progress only if power is handed over to the poor people of Pakistan who constitute 98% of its population.
Comparing Pakistan with India he said the latter was far ahead in science, technology, education, health, education and agriculture.
Pakistan will never prosper if this same combination of feudal lords and Army Generals continues to run the affairs of the country.
This statement of Altaf Hussain must form a part of the party manifesto of all the political parties in and out of the government. I would request Altaf Hussain to call an all-party conference including the government and opposition parties, and thrash out this question once and for all as to who should rule this unfortunate country.
Failing this Altaf Hussian should withdraw his party from the government so that his words could match his action. With such high thinking, I was wondering why the MQM is part of the present set-up.
