National Assembly panel on Cabinet Secretariat meets

The Standing Committee of National Assembly on Cabinet Secretariat met in the Parliament House under the chair of Ahmad Raza Maneki here on Wednesday.
The members of the committee who attended the meeting are Malik Allah Yar Khan, Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Alam Anwar, Begum Bushra Rehman, Shahid Akram Bhinder, Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi, Muhammad Faiz Tamman, Dr Sahibzada Abdul Khair Mohammad Zubair. Syed Tariq Ali Bokhari Secretary Establishment Division was also present along with senior officers of the division as well as of the Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Funds.
Raza Maneka highlighted the importance of the standing committees. He said the standing committees are mini legislatures.
They discuss the bills referred to them thoroughly and report back to the House.
Th committee discussed the Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill 2004 and recommended its passage by the House. The Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill 2003 (Ordinance No III of 2003) was, however, deferred.
Thereafter, Major General Rahmatullah (Retd) briefed the standing committee on the working of the Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Funds.
He informed the committee that organisation is doing a lot for the betterment of government employees. It is covering 500,000 employees and 74,500 have already been benefited.
Among them, 59,904 were the death cases whereas 21,646 were incapacitation cases. He added the marriage grant as well as payment for burial charges have also been commenced.
However, the committee took a serious notice of the insurance business being handled by the organisation, emphasising that it is a technical business and only the quarter concerned should handle it.
The committee also constituted a sub-committee comprising Shahid Akram Bhinder (Convener) and Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Alam Anwar, Malik Allah Yar Khan as members to look into the matter.
