Jamali says NSC to bring system of check and balance

Former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali has shown sidelights on such subjects as are of vital importance to the nation and the country at an interview at the home town Rojhan Jamali.
Items of interest touched by him at the interview include constitution, democracy, role of the army, national security council, President Musharraf and his uniform, Present Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PM in-waiting Shaukat Aziz, Kalabagh dam, mega projects, Gwadar, bomb blasts and military operation in Balochistan.
About country's constitution, he said there could be no new constitution every day. There should however be a amendments in the existing constitution conforming to the political and democratic demands of the current 21st century, for the better, he added it is the demand of democratic system should goon.
Once system goes on democratic train would move on every forces belong to Pakistan, there is no hue and cry when armed forces are called in for population census and Wapda works.
Replying to a question on National Security Council (NSC) former Prime Minister said it is an advisory body, its recommendation or decisions are subject to the approval of the parliament. NSC has brought in a system of check and balance.
It should be allowed to work. If it works well, well and good, for the country.
Responding to another question on President General Pervez Musharraf and his uniform, Zafarullah Jamali said, during his tenure for twenty months as Prime Minister, he found President Musharraf as bulwark between construction and destruction of Pakistan.
Added Jamali, "I am of the firm view that President General Pervez Musharraf must stay on to save the country and the nation. President General Musharraf alone is presently capable of Pakistan present day situation in the context of international and national scenario handling.
Jamali firmly maintained that as Prime Minister he had no difference with President Musharraf. Jamali also maintained that there was no outside pressure on him to resign from premier-ship.
Jamali admitted that there was pressure from inside his own party as certain MNA own party wanted to side line sensing my own party warnings, he added, I had mentally decided in resignation from premier-ship in the supreme interest of Pakistan, Pakistan Muslim League, healthy democracy and helpful development.
Zafarullah Jamali said at the same time opposition game out with support for him not to resign.
He went to the opposition leaders and had mentally decided to resign for the sake of democracy, democratic system for the good of the country and nation and when the day came, he added, he went with the resignation and suggestion to name Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as successor pending election of Shaukat Aziz presently contesting election to the National Assembly from two seats, one from Sindh and another from Punjab.
About Shaukat Aziz, Jamali added, he is satisfied with his performance as federal finance minister with him for twenty months. He has done well as financial wizard, how he pulls on with politics Jamali added only time would tell.
Asked if he ever thought of advising President as Prime Minister, Jamali said he never thought of advising President to dissolve National Assembly for fresh polls he maintained that he did not do so because such advise could be detrimental to democracy, on going democratic system creating problems for the country and the nation.
Asked further about President General Musharraf uniform Jamali said it is up to him (Musharraf) to decide on it.
Jamali added, General Pervaiz Musharraf has won and worn uniform by dint of his labour, neither I have award him uniform nor anyone else.
To a query about leading politicians leading self exiled life abroad former primer Jamali said they could come to the country and face court charges against them.
To another question on Kalabagh dam, former premier Jamali said, as a matter of fact there was general consensus on the construction of dam across river Indus at Kalabagh among all the Chief Ministers of the four provinces as far rack as 1985. But the Prime Minister late Mohammad Khan Junejo rejected it Jamali added that he favoured Kalabagh dam construction beneficial to the country Jamali said that he also stood for mega project deep-sea port at Gwadar, coastal highway Mirani dam, Kacchi Canal, Saindak and Reko Diq Gold-copper mining and other in Balochistan.
He said Balochistan is the future hope of Pakistan. Balochistan destiny is linked to Pakistan. He suggested that government should initiate dialogue to deal with problems of the people. People's support should also be sought to deal with an iron hand any operation in Balochistan, Jamali said law and order is a provincial subject.
