The city police on Friday arrested leaders of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal participating in a demonstration outside the New Memon Masjid in Bolton Market after Juma prayers for violating Section 144 of CrPC.
The arrested leaders include Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui and Deputy Parliamentary Leader of MMA in the Sindh Assembly Nasarullah Shajee with some activists while leading a protest demonstration against lawlessness in the city, plan to amend Hudood ordinance and blasphemy laws by the government.
A spokesman of the Jamaat-e-Islami said the MMA leaders were protesting outside the mosque, when police arrested them for violating Section 144 imposed in the city.
The police have shifted both MMA leaders along with 11 other activists to Artillery Maidan police station, he said.
