'No Afghan DPs forced to return home'

26 Jul, 2004

Secretary, Fata Security, Brigadier Mehmood Shah (Retd), has rejected reports that Afghan refugees were being compelled to leave the tribal areas.
Talking to BBC radio, he said, most of the refugees do not want to live in these areas.
He said, "Afghan refugees living in these areas have not been given deadline to leave and they would not be repatriated forcibly."
He said that a large number of people wanted to go back willingly and have been told that they can go back to Afghanistan or they can stay here if they want to.
To a question he said, "We have told them that only one person of a family could come back after their repatriation for looking after his business."
