Wapda clarifies news report

26 Jul, 2004

Wapda has clarified a news item, appeared in a section of the press regarding breach of Irsa orders.
A clarification, issued here on Sunday, states that a per daily hydrological data for the recent past days, Irsa specified daily water indents from Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs and no instructions were issued to operate these reservoirs on run-of-the-river basis as highlighted in the news item.
The news item is as such, based merely on misconception and wrong information.
The inflow/outflow data quoted in the news items pertains to July 22, 2004. On this date, outflow from Tarbela was 180,000 cusecs against Irsa's indent of 180,000 cusecs whereas from Mangla, 22,000 cusecs water was released against the indent of 22,000 cusecs. This speaks of no breach of Irsa orders on the part of Wapda.
Wapda has always respected Irsa's indents in letter and spirit irrespective of power requirements. In the same spirit, Irsa's directives about water releases are being thoroughly complied within the present situation of water crisis as well.
