Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Lieutenant General (R) Tauqir Zia, dispelled rumours of his comeback as PCB chairman saying that he had no intentions to assume the previous office again.
Talking to reporters Saturday at a dinner reception and presentation of Gold Medal to Chief Secretary, of Sindh and member PCB Advisory Council Muhammed Aslam Sanjrani organised by Brotherhood Sports Society of Pakistan (BSSP) at Karachi Gymkhana, he bluntly said, "There is no such reality and if somebody is spreading such rumours they are completely baseless."
About team performance in the current season he said that the team was doing well and had potential to win against any top class team. Former PCB Chief said that the match against India in the Asia Cup would clarify the whole story.
General Tauqir observed that it was just a matter of time and in due course the team would again emerge as world champions.
To a query concerning appointment of foreign coaches, he said, "One should praise the performance of Bob Woolmer and he is performing his job well."
Answering to a query he said foreign coach was not very costly as former coach Javed Miandad was also receiving a handsome sum and almost the same amount was being paid to Woolmer.
Earlier, Tauqir who is also the Patron-in-Chief of BSSP in his welcome address to Sindh Chief Minister asked him to work for the promotion of sports of cricket in interior Sindh also.
He observed that cricket was in decline in the interior and every concerned person should work for the promotion of sports in Sindh. He said that now Aslam Sanjrani had the power and position and he could do a lot for the betterment of sports in his own capacity.-poke.
