PIA GM for Saudi Arabia and Yemen suspended

27 Jul, 2004

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended swiftly its General Manager for Saudi Arabia and Yemen Salim Nisar. He was found drunk and misbehaved during the Prime Minister's visit to the holy places in Madina Munawwarah.
A high-powered investigation had also been ordered and if found involved in misconduct and drinking, he could be dismissed from the service, said a PIA announcement.
Although, he enjoys an excellent record as a professional and is acclaimed by his colleagues on that count, he also had the reputation of being an alcoholic for which he had been reprimanded several times in the past.
"Old habits die hard," he failed to tame himself even in that Holy Land and it appears difficult that he may come out clean this time. The noose looks too close to his neck.
According to a PIA press release, PIA Jeddah Station Manager Manzoor-ul-Hasan has been given the charge of PIA General Manager, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, till further orders.
