The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry deserves appreciation for holding the first-ever Export Trophy and Businessmen of the Year Gold Medal Award Ceremony in Peshawar.
I am all praise for the idea behind this event and am sure that it will have positive impact on promotion of trade and industry in NWFP. The event will also afford the business community of the province an opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for their outstanding performance. It will surely encourage local enterprise to achieve greater success in future.
The federal government on its part has provided an enabling environment for facilitation of exports to Afghanistan. The policy in this respect has been liberalised. A new Customs Station at Ghulam Khan has also been made operational since March 29, 2004, to further facilitate exports to Afghanistan. It is hoped that the huge market of the Central Asian Republics will also open up through Afghanistan for exports from Pakistan.
The SCCI initiative of recognising the high performers among the exporters and rewarding the best of the best should immensely boost the export culture in the N.W.F.P.
