We, the retrenched employees of Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd, are wandering from pillar to the post to get our rights. It was October 1997, when our services were terminated by SSGC management without assigning any cogent reason.
The employees, since then, are knocking at the doors of superior courts. We won the case and even the august Supreme Court comprising five Judges reinstated our services on 2nd May 2003.
The company has started lame excuses to implement the direction given by the Supreme Court with regard to our reinstatement.
The apex court also warned the Managing Director of SSGC to implement its order in letter and spirit otherwise contempt proceedings will be initiated against him.
The government is also paying no heed to the solution of our reinstatement in service. Resultantly, almost all the employees have reached the age of super-annuation and are experiencing problems.
Fortunately, this issue has now become a focal point for the Senate and the affectees are thankful to the forum for constituting a special committee to resolve the long outstanding problem.
It is pertinent to mention here that the above persons can be easily accommodated if they are posted in accord with their domiciles in other organisations falling under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources.
For example, the employees belonging to the NWFP and Punjab provinces could be adjusted in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd, OGDC, PSO and PARCO.
Similarly, the employees belonging to Sindh and Balochistan can be accommodated conveniently in SSGC, OGDC (Sindh and Balochistan), Saindak and PSO.
If the above suggestions are considered by the Senate Committee, the problems regarding reinstatement of the affected employees will be resolved amicably and they would be able to lead a happy life.
Thanks in anticipation to the Senate Committee for giving due consideration on the future of the sacked employees.
