PTCL's decision to reduce its tariff of nation-wide and international calls is indeed a welcome step.
The company, at the same time, has also made free all local calls made from midnight to 06 am. The customers have also welcomed this announcement.
PTCL has introduced flat rates for all overseas calls eg Rs 20 for all countries. Before that PTCL used to charge Rs 30 per minute for all countries, except the SAARC region ones; the rate for which was Rs 25 per minute.
The marked reduction of Rs 10 per minute clearly indicates PTCL's commitment to extend to its customers telecom services at affordable prices.
There are, however, certain other steps which the company should take in order to further facilitate its customers. PTCL had already reduced line rent from Rs 300 to Rs 200, yet more relief in this sphere would further encourage people to use telecom services, offered by PTCL.
I would like to call upon other utility service-providers like Wapda, gas etc to follow suit and bring their rates down. The increase of tariff by the Sui Gas department is not a welcome step and, therefore, it should be withdrawn immediately.
