PIA's clarification

28 Jul, 2004

With reference to a letter from Syed I. Ahmad in the Business Recorder of July 22, I would like to point out the following facts. It is incorrect to say that the PIA has decreased its capacity on flights to USA during the peak season. In fact the two flights, PK-715 and PK-717 that were previously being operated by B747 Combi, have now been replaced by B777, thus adding a capacity of 122 seats.
Two flights to Chicago by A310 have also been replaced by B777, resulting in an increase of 278 seats per week. Two flights have also been added to the new destination in USA, Houston.
These two flights are also being operated by B777 with a capacity of 329 seats, thus adding 628 seats per week. All combined weekly capacity from Pakistan to North America has increased by 1058 seats.
As far as his observations and comments regarding the B777 deal are concerned, let me assure him that PIA has purchased B777 airplanes after proper evaluation.
The deal was totally transparent and the airplanes have been purchased under a package of spares, support and services at the lowest rates possible.
The Chairman PIAC leads a team of professional, which is managing the airlines in a most efficient way. The balance sheet of PIA is an evidence of its financial strength and proves beyond doubt that PIA has turned around.
PIA is making all possible efforts to facilitate passengers in making their reservations. Clients have appreciated the reservation system and the improvements brought about in its control.
The passengers can now check the availability of seats through the PIA website www.piac.com.pk and even confirm their booking and allocate seats of their own choice through the internet.
We welcome suggestions by our regular passengers and hope that, with their critical analysis and suggestions and efforts from the employees, the airline would improve further.
