Italian parliamentarians to attend K-2 jubilee ceremony

Italian Minister for Agriculture Giovanni Alimanno and members of the Parliament have already reached here to participate in the Golden Jubilee celebrations of K-2 and 51st anniversary of Nanga. The distinguished guests are currently at the base camp of K-2 to observe climbing of K-2 by two Italian expedition teams which was first conquered by renowned Italian climber Lino Lecaddelli in 1954.
During their stay in Skardu they will watch the "Italian Expedition K-2, 50 years later" activities besides climbing of K-2 which is led by Agostino Da Polenza who will also conduct scientific research, sport environmental concern and humanitarian aid.
According to the programme the ministers and members of the Parliament will also inspect the work of the climber who are working on geology, climate change, physiology and pollution.
Later they will visit the dispensary set up at Askoli (Porters' village) by Agostino Da Polenza last year and providing health cover to the village people.
The minister is scheduled to inspect the site of Great Karakorum National Park and K-2 National Park, which are being established with the financial and technical assistance of the Italian government.
The ministers will return to Skardu on July 31, to attend the function in which Italian Town of Kortina and Skardu to be declared twin cities.
During their stay, foundation stone of Skardu Museum of Expedition would be laid and also award commendation certificate ceremony to the Balti climber on August 1 would be held.
A grand reception has also been arranged in honour of the participants of K-2 Golden Jubilee celebrations in Skardu by the Northern Areas administration.
