One hurt in explosion

One person was seriously injured in an explosion here at a house in Sector 1-8/3 on Thursday night, police said.
The cause of the explosion could not be ascertained, but according to police it was believed to be an accident. As many as seven people were present in the building at the time of explosion. The explosion occurred in the basement of the house at around 2015 hours.
The injured, Muhammad Aslam, was shifted to PIMS in a precarious condition and was under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.
SSP Islamabad Shahid Nadeem Baloch said it seemed that blast occurred due to high accumulation of natural gas in the basement of the house, which ignited after somebody turned on the light.
"It is my personnel assessment and the real cause of the explosion could be determined after the expert's report," he said.
The SSP categorically rejected the possibility of any terrorist activity and termed the explosion as 'accidental'. The affected house was being hired by the PTCL for its official works supervised by Divisional Engineer Zulfiqar.
The furniture and other equipment in the house was totally damaged, while the windowpanes of nearby houses, were broken.
Bomb disposal squad also reached the spot to determine the cause of explosion.
