A large number of students from various educational institutions in the city on Thursday held protest demonstration at Karachi Press Club (KPC) against denationalisation of St. Patrick and St. Joseph colleges.
Carrying banners and placards inscribed with demands and slogans, they chanted slogans against the Sindh government for handing over two colleges to Catholic Education Board and demanded it to revoke its anti-education decision.
The protest demonstration held under the aegis of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) first of its series against Sindh cabinet's decision, which decided on Wednesday to hand over these two colleges back to their previous owners.
Speaking on the occasion, IJT office-bearer Syed Wasif Aziz criticised Sindh government for its "anti-education" decision and termed it an attempt to close the doors of education on students.
"President Musharraf and Education Minister Zobaida Jalal are following US agenda in Pakistan and giving educational institutions to missionary organisations is part of their policy" he claimed and added that such decisions will be strongly resisted.
Later, protesting students dispersed amid chanting slogans against the provincial government for its denationalisation policy.
