Architectural structure of the historical gates that still exist in some shape in the walled city would be restored and rehabilitated.
Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Rasool was informed this during a briefing by DCO Lahore Khalid Sultan. Among others who attended the briefing included the Punjab Secretary Information and Culture, LDA Director General and PHA Director General.
It was also told during the briefing that historically there had been 12 gates, ie Bhatti, Texali, Roshnai, Masti, Kashmiri, Khizri (Sheranwala), Yakki, Delhi, Akbari, Mochi, Shah Almi and Lohari around the city.
However, about half of these historic gates had lost their remains, while others need to be restored.
The Chief Secretary directed the DCO to arrange a detailed survey so that these gates could be restored. The PHA DG disclosed that 'history street' covering all historic buildings of the old city was in the pipeline, which would provide better exposure of the historic buildings to tourists.
