Lahore receives heavy rain

A heavy downpour lashed the provincial metropolis on Friday morning providing respite from humid sultry weather but causing problems for commuters and residents of low lying areas which were inundated with rain water.
The cloudburst followed by a windstorm started at about 10 am and continued for almost an hour and half, yielding 54 mm in the city, and 32 mm at the airport.
Apart from low lying residential areas, parts of various posh localities like Gilberg, Shah Jamal and Iqbal Town were also inundated.
Most affected areas included localities in the walled city, Krishan Nagar, Sanda road, Angoori Bagh, Baghbanpura, Walton road area Chauburji, Multan road, Ferozepur road from Chungi Amarsadhu to Bank Stop.
Motorists also faced problems as many were seen pushing their vehicles, which had got stuck in knee-deep water in different areas.
Local met office has forecast more rains for most parts of northern and central Punjab and cloudy weather for the south of the province during the next 24 hours.
