The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has taken serious notice that Banks and Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) were not financing for personal computers and related accessories.
"Some complaints have been received from different quarters that Personal Computers and computer accessories are not being financed by the banks and DFIs like other consumer durable," said a statement issued by the SBP on Friday.
The matter has been viewed seriously, said the SBP. It is clarified that personal loans may be extended for purchase of personal computers just like other consumer durable, as stipulated under R-25 of the Prudential Regulations for Consumer Financing, it added.
"Banks and DFIs are advised to direct their branches that they may extend personal loans for purchase of Personal Computers or accessories thereof under the aforesaid Prudential Regulation," it said.
