The issue of appointment of Pir Masood Chishti as vice chairman Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has taken a new turn when its appeal committee, headed by Ch. Muhammad Ashraf Wallah, restored him as vice-chairman of the bar, after another body, headed by Kazim Khan, had suspended him from his office.
According to details, a member of PBC Zia Ullah Khan had challenged the appointment of Pir Masood Chishti as vice-chairman PBC.
It was contended that under the PBC Act no body could appoint a person as vice-chairman of the bar. He therefore, prayed to hold election for the said office. His appeal was referred to a committee, headed by Kazim Khan, which suspended Pir Masood Chishti from his office.
Pir Masood Chishti approached the PBC against the decision of the said committee. He said that the committee has taken illegal and unconstitutional decision, hence prayed to the court to suspend the orders in question.
The PBC committee, headed by Ch. Muhammad Ashraf Wallah, after hearing the applicant, suspended the orders of the said committee and restored Chishti as vice-chairman.
