Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday reiterated his firm resolve to serve the nation more devotedly and make Pakistan a moderate and progressed state.
"Incident of life attempt has further strengthened my resolve to make Pakistan a modern Islamic welfare state and render any sacrifice to achieve this goal" he said, talking to a delegation of Ulema that called on him at his residence.
He said some unscrupulous elements were busy in earning bad name for Islam and it is our utmost endeavour to put these elements on the right path.
The delegation was led by Brigadier Mohammad Bashir (Retd) of Eidgah Sharif and comprised Oari Maula Bakhsh, Maulana Abdul Saboor Chishti, Hafiz Mohammad Iqbal Rizvi, Maulana Abdul Aziz and Mohammad Taufeeq.
Shaukat said Ulema have a key role in promoting peace and harmony in the society and urged them to step up efforts for eliminating extremism from the society.
"There was need for promoting Islamic values and it would be the best service to the Ummah and the nation" Shaukat said.
He underlined the need for collaborative efforts to foil conspiracies against Islam and Muslims and expressed belief, "No one can be successful in fulfilment of his ulterior motives as far as there is unity in our ranks."
