Seven Chinese sailors held

04 Aug, 2004

Seven Chinese sailors were arrested Tuesday after allegedly kidnapping a Taiwanese skipper and three crew members in a mutiny aboard a fishing boat, the Coast Guard Administration (CGA) said.
The seven were taken into custody upon the arrival of the 818-tonne Tuvalu-registered vessel "Yifa" at Taiwan's southern Kaohsiung harbour, it said.
The CGA said that on July 29, five days after the Taiwanese-invested vessel departed from Kaohsiung, the seven staged a mutiny armed with knives and kidnapped Taiwanese skipper Yen Fu-chin and three other Taiwanese crew.
