Advisor favours dams in rural areas

05 Aug, 2004

The only solution to water shortage in rural areas is construction of maximum dams. Sindh CM's Advisor Mumtaz Hameed stated this while inspecting an under-construction dam at Usman Tikkri on Lyari River near Gadap on Wednesday.
He said the construction of dams would help improve the underground water level on one hand and make the land fertile for cultivation on other, thus people would be able to get fresh vegetables easily.
DO Younus Arain briefed the advisor about the project, saying the dam would cost Rs 18 million, and the length of the dam would be 180 feet and the height 30 feet.
He said the water storage capacity in the dam would be 3.35 million gallons.
The advisor also met with the local people and informed that after construction of this dam their socio-economic condition would be improved.
He also said the dam would generate job opportunities for the local population and the water level for their tube-wells would also improve.
