A new water pumping station and Manghopir Filter Plant would become operational by January 2005 and the existing water supply capacity would increase to its maximum. A spokesman for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board on Thursday said that the trial operation of the two facilities would begin in November 2004.
Through the Manghopir Filter Plant eight million gallons water per day would be filtered. The improvement of this water supply system is being financed through assistance from Japan Bank.
Managing director of the KWSB Brigadier Iftikhar Haider the other day had visited the site of the filter plant and the pumping station and had instructed his staff to complete the work according to the schedule.
The spokesman said that the Manghopir Filter Plant would treat and filter water received from the Hub source and supply clean water to the people connected with this system of water supply.
He said that areas that were likely to benefit include Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Site Town and Surjani Town. The KWSB MD has said that the quality of work is satisfactory.
