Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), in collaboration with Small & Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and National Productivity Organisation (NPO), will hold a one-day training seminar on August 13, for local jewellery industry.
The aim of the seminar, "Jewellery and Gems Industry-Past, Present and Future," will be aimed at creating awareness for the betterment and improvement of local jewellery industry.
LCCI President Mian Anjum Nisar in a statement issued here on Thursday said that the seminar would threw light on jewellery export procedure, taxes with regard to jewellery sector, potential of gems industry and export opportunities and procedure to take loan from banks for this business.
He said that despite all natural resources, Pakistan's jewellery export during 2002-03 stood at 26 million US dollars as compared to India's around US 11 billion dollars.
He regretted that this sector has been ignored and added that LCCI realising its importance not only sent a delegation to China and Hong Kong but would also be arranging an exhibition and a seminar for its promotion.
Objective of both these programmes was to highlight the potential of this sector, he added. It would also prepare local jewellers to participate in the world exhibitions in order to have access to international market.
