10 tonnes hashish seized, 4 held

Anti Narcotics Force (ANF), Punjab, with the assistance of Special Investigation Cell (SIC), ANF Islamabad, has busted an international gang of drug traffickers and recovered about 10 tonnes of supreme quality charas from their possession.
While addressing to a press conference here on Thursday, Regional Director ANF Punjab, Brigadier Ashfaq ur Rashid said that SIC had passed on an information to them that huge quantity of exportable charas was being stocked at some unknown place in the Punjab, which would be smuggled to European countries.
On the basis of this tip off, special raiding teams were constituted which kept the suspected spots under close observation. Finally, an ANF squad conducted raid at a godown alongside the Lahore-Multan Road at Akhtarabad, Okara district on August 4 and recovered over 9.760 tonnes of charas, besides arresting four persons from the scene.
They were identified as Aqil Muhammad alias Kabli Khan, Mori Gul, Rana Zubair Safdar, and Rana Ijaz.
The accused confessed during the investigation that they were members of an international gang.
One of the accused had already been declared proclaimed offender in a murder case, the ANF regional director disclosed. The ANF had registered a case against the accused and further investigations were in progress, he stated.
