Pakistan has urged international donors to finance major initiatives of Trade Policy 2004-03, including establishment of communication city, promotion of garment sector, export of horticulture products, export of pharmaceutical products, etc.
According to EPB here on Thursday, this request was made at the 4th donors co-ordination meeting, held at Islamabad. Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan chaired the meeting, which was attended by secretary commerce Tasneem Noorani, chairman Export Promotion Bureau Tariq Ikram, representatives of the World Bank, Unctad, ADB, UNDP, Jetro, EU and DFID.
The donors were also asked for funding the establishment of new campus of Pakistan School of Fashion Design at Lahore.
The donors held out an assurance that they would study all the initiatives and submit their proposals for funding and consultancy services in the next meeting.
A thorough review of the research studies being undertaken by the donors was made in the meeting. It was told that some of the short-term studies had been completed and the rest were likely to be completed by the end of this year.
Humayun Akhtar Khan briefed the donors on the new Trade Policy initiatives, and proposals regarding technical assistance from donors were sought for the development of various sectors identified in the Trade Policy 2004-05.
