PML-N critical of use of force in Balochistan

07 Aug, 2004

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Chairman Raja Muhammad Zafarul Haq has expressed deep concern over agitation and confrontation in Balochistan, and said that use of force might aggravate the situation leading to grave risks to the integrity of the country.
Talking to party workers in his office here on Thursday, he said that turning every problem into a security issue to justify use of force was not only unwise but also dangerous for the federation.
The workers also showed concern over the situation in Balochistan and Wana, the recurring suicide attacks, deteriorating law and order and growing poverty in the country.
They were of the opinion that the country was moving towards anarchy and the ruling clique seemed to be unable to control the situation. The rulers are not abstaining from any action that might further widen the gulf between the Center and provinces enabling the internal and external hostile elements to take advantage.
Raja Zafarul Haq said that the situation would get out of control if the rulers resorted to blind force than sagacious strategy.
If Pakistan could go into dialogue with India despite a history of unpleasant experiences, then how could the government close venues of dialogue and reconciliation with the people of Balochistan? he questioned.
The PML (N) chairman hoped that political minds working with the government would articulate their independent opinion in the matter before the conditions in the province worsened.
