All in a day's work!: 'Salam Pakistan'!

07 Aug, 2004

What is the latest?
Salam Pakistan at PTV.
What?
Don't u watch PTV?
No!
Even after paying the licence fee as the new budgetary penalty?
Come on!
Just tell what r u referring to?
The "Salam Pakistan campaign" launched in connection with the 57th Independence Day celebration on 14th August by PTV.
Ya. Heard that the 'Pakistan Zindabad' is being replaced by Salam Pakistan.
Come on, both wish longevity for our beloved country.
True!
The minister has said at the launching ceremony that the campaign had been launched to inculcate pride, hope and confidence in the masses. "It will promise to rebuild the bond of unity among Pakistanis and motivate them to take their country to new heights of progress and success".
True!
The hope, pride and confidence in the masses has encouraged the Security Agencies to suggest Mr. Shaukat Aziz not to attend public rallies in person for by election to be held on 18th August.
Really?
So the people he will be representing will be visiting him at his residence to give assurance of their support.
Great!
Meaning the poor people of Tharparkar will not see the Honourable Prime Minister-in-Waiting who will be stepping into the Prime Ministers, list after getting their precious votes on 18th August 2004.
True!
But there r many other novel ideas for 18th August by-election campaign!
Such as?
Addressing election rallies on telephone close to the election day.
On whose expense, my dear, the tax payers?
Come on! Don't be sarcastic!
No my dear, am not!
Heard that there is another suggestion of delivering letters to the voters!
Mind that the letters have to be read by some one in the constituencies.
Meaning?
Simple! Both the Attock and Tharparkar constituencies are those of the poorest in the country.
True!
The people there find difficult to earn two square meals a day lest going for education.
True!
But what r u referring to!
Nothing! Just thinking who will be reading out the letters to the illiterate people who will take care of the security of the reader.
Come on!
They say it was not an unusual practice in other countries as candidates conveyed their post- election programme.
Great!
Meaning that the Wait In government will ensure 100 % literacy level at constituency from where they will intend to contest next election.
True!
This year the month of August has two important dates!
R u referring to 57th independence anniversary?
No! Am referring to the by-elections that r going to be held in August.
True, August has historic importance as far as history of Pakistan is concerned.
R u referring to the 14th August being celebrated under 'Salam Pakistan' campaign?
No am referring to the historic by-elections being held in August to elect the chosen one under "engineered democracy formula."
Great!
There must be two slogans each for 14th August and 18th August!
Such as?
Zindabad Pakistan and Salam Engineered Democracy!
