London white sugar futures closed firmer on Friday after a quiet session in which locals were the main buyers, dealers said.
October was up $0.7 at $249.7 in volume of 835 lots, having moved between $248.1 and $252.2.
December was up $0.9 at $254.2 in volume of 67 lots.
"Today was a day for the locals," one European trader said.
Traders said the market yo-yoed in a very tight range as locals bought and sold positions in the absence of fundamental news to drive prices.
