Sikandar assures justice to journalists

Prime Minister of Azad Jammu Kashmir Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan has assured the journalist community that he will hold an inquiry into the contempt notice sent to Khawar Nawaz Raja, Chief Editor, Weekly Nawa-i-Hurriyat.
He was talking to a group of journalists, who met him under the leadership of Haji Nawaz Raja, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, here on Tuesday. Nawaz Raza informed the premier about the contempt notice issued to Khawar Nawaz Raja.
He told the prime minister that Nawa-i-Hurriyat has published some material regarding the corruption of some members of higher judiciary of AJK, reacting on this the judges have started building pressure on the administration, which is harassing the journalist and threatening him of dire consequences.
Nawaz Raza and other journalists have called upon the AJK premier to take stock of the situation and direct the administration to stop harassment of the journalist.
Sardar Sikandar Hayat, while responding to journalists, said that he believes in free and independent press and would not allow anyone to pressurise the press. He assured them that he would hold an inquiry into the matter and would ask the administration to stop harassment of the journalist.
