APFTU seeks raise in wages

17 Aug, 2004

The All Pakistan Federation of Trade Unions (APFTU) has called upon the government to amend the Industrial Relations Ordinance and Presidential Ordinance 2000 and also increased the wages of workers.
While addressing a seminar here on Monday, APFTU secretary-general Khurshid Ahmed has expressed his deep concern over the meagre salaries of the working class.
He said that challenges of the globalised economy could only be met by improving skills and working conditions of workers. He said that most of the workers are living below the poverty line and the government's steps are making the poor poorer.
In order to improve the condition of the masses of the developing countries, the developed countries should open their markets for agriculture products and semi-manufactured goods of developing countries.
